Event Sponsor, the Westport Science & Engineering Foundation, Looking for Business and Community Support

Westport, CT, January 12, 2007 – The Westport Science & Engineering Foundation (WSEF) has launched an effort to raise $50,000 to support the annual Southern Connecticut Invitational Science & Engineering Fair (SCISEF). This year’s Fair is being held on Saturday, February 3rd at Staples High School in Westport. The Fair is open to students from the region, and has attracted entries from Darien, Greenwich, Westport, and Wilton.

“I encourage members of the community to support the scientists and engineers of the future,” said William M. Foster II, WSEF President. “We’re delighted that SCISEF continues to grow and that’s why we’re looking for donations in many forms – financial contributions and corporate sponsorships, food for the event, and printing of materials. And, we have a need for additional judges. In the last five years, we’ve gone from 10 to 60 and still we require more.”

In addition to sponsoring the Fair each year, the WSEF has held some extraordinary events for students to see the practical application of science, including a visit to Pratt & Whitney’s aircraft engine facilities and a seminar on physics using an actual LeMans race car. WSEF also sponsors a mentoring program to enable High School students to access University level research facilities and support along with career planning.

“The activities of the WSEF have meant so much to the students of Southern Connecticut . With additional support, we can continue to expand our outreach and programming,” said Harry Rosvally, Ed.D., Chairman of the Science Department for the Westport School District. “Some participants have gone on to be regional finalists in the Seimens-Westinghouse competition, national semi-finalists and finalists in the Intel Science Talent Search, and attend Universities including Brown, Cal Tech, MIT, and the University of Pennsylvania.”
